Police have confirmed a person died in a single-vehicle crash on Yarra Glen in Hughes on Tuesday evening.
Yarra Glen was closed in both directions between Carruthers Street and Melrose Drive after the crash about 6pm.
All roads were reopened about 10.45pm.
Detective Acting Station Sergeant Marcus Boorman said the vehicle was believed to be travelling north when it crashed.
"Investigations are ongoing at this stage but it's quite apparent the vehicle was travelling north towards the city and for reasons unknown at this point has lost control and rolled across the centre median and come to rest in the southbound lanes," he said.
"Tragically a person is deceased at the scene."
ACT Policing's Collision Investigation and Reconstruction Team is examining the circumstances of the crash and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
Earlier, police issued a callout following the crash to find a man and woman alleged to be passengers of the car who fled the scene.
ACT Policing confirmed two people were in custody and assisting with enquiries shortly before 11pm.
The death is the first on ACT roads this year.
