Teen dead, other teen seriously burned after farm accident

A 15-year-old boy has died and another 15-year-old boy has suffered third-degree burns after the aluminium irrigation pipe they were moving came into contact with overhead power lines.

Emergency services were called to the property in Tolga, about 85 kilometres south-west of Cairns, just before 6pm on Friday.

The aluminium pipe involved is believed to be similar to the pipes that connect to form this irrigation system.

Paramedics found one boy in cardiac arrest as a result of an electrical shock and the other teenager had suffered third-degree burns to 20 per cent of his body.

The child who suffered the cardiac arrest could not be revived and died at the scene.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said the teenager with burns was taken to Atherton Hospital, before he was moved to Cairns Hospital and then transferred to Townsville Hospital.

His condition has since stabilised.

Police said the two boys were not related and described the incident as an "unfortunate accident".
