Firefighters battle blaze at Flinders Street hotel

Firefighters are battling a blaze inside a hotel in Flinders Street in Melbourne's CBD.

It's understood the fire started on the 20th floor of the Adina Apartment Hotel Melbourne just after 5.30pm, with some guests evacuated from the complex.

Firefighters were called after flames and smoke were seen billowing from the building.

The fire was brought under control just after 6pm, but seven trucks remain at the scene.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.

An MFB spokeswoman said the fire was quickly extinguished by firefighters with a number of people evacuated as a precaution.

VicRoads warned motorists to avoid the area with all lanes closed eastbound on Flinders Street between Spencer Street and King Street due to the fire.

Motorists are being urged to use Collins Street or Clarendon Street onto City Road through Southbank instead.

More to come.
